Radiant’s All-Star Voice Cast Will Amaze You

The anime adaptation of the first French manga published in Japan—Radiant—is premiering very soon, so it’s a perfect opportunity to take a look at some of the series’ voice cast. If you’re unaware of the story, here’s a brief overview: Seth is a wizard who has been infected after contact with Nemesis, the supernatural creatures that are terrorizing towns and civilians, and can only be stopped by trained individuals. Coming into contact with Nemesis gave Seth powers, which he now wants to use to fight Nemesis and other monsters—to do that, he has to find a way to a place called “Radiant.” Along the way, Seth will hone his skills with help from the experienced Alma, deal with other people believing he’s just like the Nemesis, and learn the meaning behind “people aren’t born humans, they become human.” With a cast featuring both veteran voice actors and new talents, who will be bringing life to the world of Radiant? Let’s run down a few of the characters and see who they’re voiced by, as well as some of the previous roles their actors are known for. Let’s get started!

Seth: Yumiri Hanamori

Radiant’s main protagonist Seth is voiced by Yumiri Hanamori. She has been performing in roles since 2013 with a few more recent shows you will recognize her voice from. Hanamori has experience with starring roles, as she played Anne Hanakoizumi in Anne-Happy and Laid-Back Camp‘s Nadeshiko Kagamihara. Yumiri was also recently in Caligula as Shonen-Doll and Overlord as Evileye. Radiant won’t be the only show she’s working on this fall, as she’ll also be in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime as Shizu.

Mélie: Aoi Yūki

The sorceress Mélie will be played by a familiar name: Aoi Yūki! This award-winning voice actress has had many notable roles in her career thus far includingh er role as Madoka Kaname in Puella Magi Madoka Magica  which won her two Best Actress awards in 2011 and 2012. Elsewhere, she has voiced a wide variety of characters including Kayo Hinazuki in ERASEDMy Hero Academia‘s Tsuyu Asui, hacker extraordinaire Futaba Sakura in Persona 5, Sword Art Online II‘s Yuuki Konno, and Sayaka Natori in the hit film Your Name.

Doc: Shintarou Oohata

Shintarou Oohata, a veteran voice actor more known for side characters, plays the goggles-wearing Doc. However, that doesn’t mean you won’t recognize some of his past roles: he was Chiba in BECK: Mongolian Chop SquadFuture Card Buddyfight‘s Drumbunker Dragon, Porta in Patema Inverted, and the recent Major 2nd as Andy Suzuki.

Alma: Romi Park

With Romi Park providing the voice for Alma, you might have an idea of what to expect from her. Seth’s mentor is tough and brash, which is similar to some other well-known characters she’s voiced in the past. Not all of Park’s characters fall into that style, but some of them you’ll notice do such as Edward Elric in Fullmetal AlchemistKill a Kill‘s villianous Ragyo Kiryuin, the detective prince Naoto Shirogane from Persona 4, and continuing as Zoe Hange in Attack on Titan‘s third season. Were you also aware that she was in a variety of video game anime adaptations such as Blue Dragon, Maplestory, and Clannad After Story?

Dragunov: Koji Yusa

There’s more than one award-winning voice actor on the cast of Radiant, as Koji Yusa will be playing Dragunov. The Synergy Award winner for Kamen Rider Den-O is perhaps more known for his roles in anime such as Gin Ichimaru in Bleach, Ergo Proxy‘s Vincent LawHaven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto‘s good-looking model delinquent Shou Hayabusa, and Lau in Black Butler. You may also know him as the voice of one of the edgier characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Shadow the Hedgehog.

Grim: Takehito Koyasu

For over thirty years, Takehito Koyasu has leant his voice to anime and will continue to do so here, as he voices Grim. We could literally be here all day listing roles that he’s known for, but here’s a very brief look at his resume—Milliardo Peacecraft/Zechs Merquise in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, everyone’s favorite vampire in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure & Stardust CrusadersDio Brando, Shigeru Aoba in Neon Genesis Evangelion, and in the last two seasons of Attack on Titan as the Beast Titan. His work in video games is also very extensive with such roles as Johnny Ariga in CatherineKingdom Hearts II‘s version of Seifer from Final Fantasy VIII, one of the early antagonists in Shadow Hearts 2 with the Vatican Inquistor Nicolai Conrad, and even plays Shuu Iwamine in the drama CDs for Hatoful Boyfriend. Koyasu is able to really nail down the villian role as seen with a majority of the roles above.

Master Lord Majesty: Kappei Yamaguchi

We follow up one thirty-year veteran of the industry with another, since Kappei Yamaguchi will be providing the voice for Master Lord Majesty, a truly noble character. He’s had some iconic roles in his career such as L in Death NoteOne Piece‘s Usopp, Inuyasha himself, boy-type Ranma Saotome in Ranma ½, and he’s also recently done work as Teddie from Persona 4 and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable‘s Shigekiyo Yangu. While some of those are incredibly well-known in Japanese media, did you know he’s also the Japanese voice of Bugs Bunny and Crash Bandicoot?

Ulmina Bagliore: Saori Hayami

Saori Hayami is a voice actress who has been practically everywhere since her debut in 2007, and will be voicing Ulmina Bagliore. It’s almost harder to talk about what she hasn’t been in recently, but here’s a few roles you may remember her from—Saki Morimi in Eden of the East, Sound Euphonium‘s Haruka Ogasawara, the student that helps Kohei and Tsumugi cook in sweetness & lightningKotori Iida, and Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~‘s poisonous but lovable protagonist Cardia. This year alone she’s played idol Yuzuki Shiraishi in A Place Further Than the UniverseDARLING in the FRANXX‘s Kokoro, and even got biological in Cells at Work! as your Regulatory T-Cell. Plus, if you need someone to sing, she’s pretty much got you covered as she’s also had singing roles in games such as Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE.

This should give you a brief glimpse at some of the remarkable talent that is going to be heading up Radiant. Of course, this isn’t even the entire cast, so there are more great voices that you’ll hear each and every week as go through the series. Are any of your favorite voice actors showing up in Radiant? Who are you most looking forward to hearing in Radiant? Let us know in the comments!
