Live-Action “Bleach” Film to Make U.S. Premiere at JAPAN CUTS Fest

If you’re looking forward to director Shinsuke Sato’s live-action Bleach movie, you better plan on hopping over to NYC this July. Anime NYC powered by Crunchyroll and Japan Society will be bringing the U.S. premiere to JAPAN CUTS: Festival of New Japanese Film on July 28, and Shinsuke Sato will be on hand to introduce it.

The JAPAN CUTS festival takes place at New York’s Japan Society, which is where Sato will be making his rare appearance. Beyond introducing the film, the director will also participate in a post-screening Q&A with attendees.

This puts the U.S. premiere of Bleach just about a week after the July 20 opening in Japan. Here’s more on the feature:

Sato’s BLEACH is an adaptation of the original BLEACH manga series created by Tite Kubo. Published between 2001 and 2016, the original manga sold over 120 million copies worldwide, ranked repeatedly on BookScan and Diamond’s top graphic novel lists, and won Japan’s illustrious Shogakukan Manga Award. Kubo’s original manga also gave birth to an anime series running 366 episodes and four movies, and the upcoming live-action film is a new telling of this beloved adventure. You can read Kubo’s original manga in the U.S. via VIZ Media and watch the anime online through CrunchyrollVIZ MediaNetflix, and Hulu.

Bleach tickets are now on sale for Japan Society members, and Anime NYC attendees and the general public will be able to purchase their own on June 18.
