Hikaru Utada Wishes Us “Good Night” in New “Penguin Highway” Trailer

The upcoming film adaptation of the book Penguin Highway has just launched a brand new 90-second trailer, featuring new footage and our first taste of the movie’s theme, “Good Night.”

Performed by Hikaru Utada, “Good Night” was envisioned as a melodic, nostalgic tune. The lyrics are reminiscent of young protagonist Aoyama-kun, voiced by actress Kana Kita.

Penguin Highway is based on the book of the same name by Tomihiko Morimi (The Eccentric Family), and tells the story of an intelligent boy named Aoyama-kun who strikes up a friendship with local dental assistant “Onee-san.” Penguins start appearing inexplicably in his suburban town far from the sea. Even more confusing is when he sees Onee-san throw a can of cola, which turns into a penguin.

The film comes to Japanese cinemas this August.
